Golden Opportunities
For Youth operates a youth drop-in centre and sponsors three youth homes:
Fairbairn
House (Ottawa)
Maison de mon Père (Cornwall)
Talitha House (Ottawa)
Youth-Net drop-in centre (Cornwall)
Fairbairn
House is a 10-bed open custody home for 16 and 17 year old male young
offenders.

Program
Methodology:
Fairbairn
House delivers programming through a Personal Life Management grid.
Opportunities are provided for youth to identify their needs and to
develop and practice skills needed to be contributing members of the
community.

Programs
offered at Fairbairn House
Healthy
Lifestyles: Addresses negative behaviour and explores alternative
choices
Community Awareness: Provides information on topics and services
in the community
Arts & Crafts: Permits youths to think in abstractions and
practice effective use of leisure time
12-Step Program: Teaches youth to evaluate their strengths and
weaknesses, which allows participants to empower themselves through
faith
Healthy Sexuality: Teaches concepts such as consent, responsibility,
accountability and respect
Understanding Violence: Assists youth in understanding the origins
of violence and explores alternatives to the use of violence
Recreation Program: Allows youths to practice effective use of
leisure time
Literacy Program: Teaches youth to read, write, and understand
what they read
Employment Education: Provides job search and job retention skills
(Participants may earn academic credits toward their high school diplomas)

Maison
de mon Père is an 8-bed open custody facility housing 16 and
17 year old male youths.

Programs
offered at Maison de mon Père
Clarica
Parenting Program: Teaches the management of anger and stress and
the use of community resources.
Sears
Independent Learning Education Program: Through a series of self-assigned
learning modules, teaches the reading and comprehension skills required
to learn effectively.
Anger
Management: Teaches young people ways to prevent anger, as well
as how to manage stressful situations
Substance Awareness: Teaches youth what leads to drug abuse,
as well as steps to manage the problem
Dating & Relationships: Teaches youth how to develop a healthy
and pro-social relationships into their lives
Employment Education: Provides youth with the tools to complete
their high school education and become productive members in the workforce
Life Administration: Teaches youth a variety of skills such as
budgeting, community contacts, decision making, searching for housing,
and basic maintenance skills
Maison de
mon Père also utilizes programs in the community, such as Alcoholics
Anonymous and recreation services, to name only a few.

Talitha
House is a 6-bed open custody home for 16 and 17 year old female young
offenders.

Addictions
Program: Assists young women in becoming aware of the causes of
their addiction
Life Skills: Teaches conflict resolution, social interaction,
relationships and communication skills
Home Economics: Teaches nutrition skills
Sexual Assault Support Centre: Offers community counselors for
those in need
Health Care: Teaches nutrition and personal hygiene
Parenting: Teaches the management of anger and stress and the use of
community resources
Religion: Focuses on morals and values
Self Awareness: Teaches esteem, assertiveness, self-image and
warning signs of depression

Youth
Net is a teen drop-in centre which is open to all teenagers. It offers
several programs, which teach socially responsible peer interactions and
friendships, promote emotional stability, teach coping skills and teach
communication and expression.

Philosophy
Statement
In
our Youth Net program we hope to build the leaders for the next generation
who are sure of their values, convictions and abilities. We look to
support youth physically, intellectually, spiritually and emotionally,
thereby equipping them to face the challenges of the future.

Tuesday
3:30 to 5:30 pm, Drop-In Program: Pool and ping pong tables, music,
videos and refreshments
Thursday
3:30 to 5:30 pm, Drop-In Program: Pool and ping pong tables, music,
videos and refreshments
8:00 pm, Music Program
Saturday
7:00 pm, Teens Alive Program (includes a worship service).
